Kissimmee Mayor Jose Alvarez and his family have lived in Osceola for more than 20 years. Jose was born in Havana, Cuba, and came to the United States in 1971 as a child. He was raised in Miami where he met his wife Darlene and started a family and career with the Florida Department of Transportation. Shortly after, Jose, Darlene, and their five daughters moved to Osceola in 1997, where Jose entered the real estate business. He is now a Licensed Real Estate Broker and the owner of One Way Realty, Inc.

For more than seven years, Jose Alvarez has served the residents and businesses of Kissimmee, first as a City Commissioner, and now as Mayor.

During his time in office, he has championed smart investments in economic development and business sector growth that has significantly increased the number of higher-wage jobs and Kissimmee’s economic outlook.

Today, the newly formed Medical Arts District is the third-largest in the State, and Kissimmee’s municipal airport has been upgraded to a national airport. Jose is a proud member of America’s “Climate Mayors,” a signer of the Sierra Club’s Mayors for Clean Energy (M4CE) endorsement, and this year Kissimmee is slated to become the first city in Florida to power 100% of its facilities using solar energy.

Additionally, Kissimmee has improved many of its roads, created a vibrant downtown, refurbished City parks, and aided local non-profits and families struggling with housing. And all these things have been done while maintaining an excellent credit rating, and without having ever considered a millage (tax) rate increase.

Mayor Alvarez is a small business owner, yet time and again he has stood with workers to demand better wages and fair treatment on the job, including Disney workers’ successful negotiations for $15. Jose brings with him integrity, hard work, experience, and is running for Osceola County Commissioner because he knows that we can all do much better countywide.

Among numerous appointments to industry committees and boards during Jose’s 20 years in real estate, he has served on the Florida Association of Realtors® Board of Directors, the Mid-Florida Regional MLS Board of Directors, and in 2009 he was elected to serve as President of the Osceola County Association of Realtors®.

Jose strongly believes in community service and volunteers his time in service to numerous civic, educational, professional, and non-profit organizations, including Help Now Osceola, Osceola Education Foundation, the Kissimmee/Osceola Commission on Homelessness, the Hispanic Business Council, and many others.
