Lighthouse Central Florida, an organization that provides vision rehabilitation services to individuals living with blindness and/or other visual impairments, recently received five grants totaling $53,000. The grants will help fund the organization’s Youth and Adult Services for up to 150 infants, children, teens and adults who live with vision loss, as well as support general operations.
“The grant support from community partners is vital for the continued success of our clients,” said Kyle Johnson, President and CEO of Lighthouse Central Florida. “I’m confident it will translate into more developmental, academic and social milestones for local kids and adults while also providing the necessary tools to help our employees work more efficiently.”
The grants came from the following organizations:
- The Chesley G. Magruder Foundation, a local Christian organization focusing on education and human services, gave $20,000 for Youth Services .
- The Martin Andersen-Gracia Andersen Foundation, a local nonprofit, granted $15,000, which will be going towards all programming, including Youth and Adult Services.
- Dr. Harry J. Heeb Foundation, which benefits underprivileged children, granted $12,000 towards the Youth Services.
- Massey Services, a pest control company, donated $3,000 towards Youth Services.
- Maitland Rotary Art Festival, a local annual celebration of the arts, donated $3,000 for Youth Services.
Lighthouse’s Youth Services include Early Intervention, Children’s and Transition programs. Programming ensures that developmental milestones are met, including academic and social development, while helping teens and young adults become more independent and prepare for future success in a sighted world. The Adults Services programs ensure individuals aged 18 and up receive the support they need to live independently and receive career readiness skills.
