The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, led by Sheriff Marcos R. Lopez, participated in the final leg of the 2024 Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Florida on Friday, running 5.5 miles from downtown Celebration to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort in Kissimmee.

The run was a culminating moment of a statewide tradition that unites law enforcement officers from across Florida in support of Special Olympics athletes. The final leg brought together agencies, athletes, and community supporters, all with one shared goal: to champion inclusion and celebrate the accomplishments of individuals with intellectual disabilities.

During the closing ceremony at the sports complex, Chief Deputy Dan Weiss spoke on behalf of the Sheriff’s Office, expressing pride in the agency’s continued partnership with Special Olympics Florida and the broader effort to promote unity, understanding, and community engagement through sport.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run serves as the largest grassroots fundraiser for Special Olympics, with agencies from across the state carrying the Flame of Hope through their communities ahead of the State Summer Games, which also took place this weekend at ESPN Wide World of Sports.

On social media, the Sheriff’s Office extended heartfelt thanks to the divisions that helped organize and support the event, as well as to the residents and partners who cheered them on along the route.

This year’s participation reflects the continued commitment of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office to community-driven service and support for those who inspire us all with their strength and spirit.
