The dream of homeownership became a reality for the Reyes Family this week as District 1 Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry and Salvation Army of Osceola County Major Ken Chapman came together to celebrate the family’s official home closing, made possible through the Pathway to Housing initiative.

District 1 Commissioner Peggy Choudhry, who has championed the initiative from the start, was on hand to celebrate with the family. “Seeing the joy on the Reyes Family’s faces reminds us all why we do this,” said Commissioner Choudhry. “Pathway to Housing is about restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity. This is how we build a stronger Osceola County—one home, one family at a time.”

The celebration took place at First American Title Insurance Company in Kissimmee, where the Reyes Family signed the final paperwork and received the keys to their new home. This marks the fourth successful home closing through the Pathway to Housing program—an initiative aimed at transforming lives by providing a clear and supportive path to homeownership.

Pathway to Housing is designed to help families break the cycle of housing insecurity by providing them with the tools needed to achieve homeownership and long-term financial stability. The program is the result of a powerful collaboration between Osceola County—via Commissioner Choudhry’s Betterment Grant—The Salvation Army, and other local organizations. It offers vital financial education, assistance, and support to qualifying families, helping them transition from renting to owning a home.

“This is more than just a closing—it’s a new beginning for a family who has worked so hard to reach this moment,” said Major Ken Chapman of The Salvation Army of Osceola County. “Thanks to the dedication of our partners and the strength of the families we serve, we’re witnessing lives being changed, one home at a time. Congratulations to the Reyes Family on their new start!”

The Reyes Family now begins a new chapter filled with security, independence, and hope—an achievement that symbolizes the growing success of the Pathway to Housing initiative in Osceola County.
