Under the bright Friday night lights at the St. Cloud Little League fields, nearly 1,000 young athletes in crisp uniforms and caps proudly marched onto the field, officially launching the league’s 50th anniversary season. The milestone Opening Ceremony celebrated five decades of St. Cloud Little League baseball, softball, leadership, and community pride — a legacy that has shaped generations of families across St. Cloud.
Earlier this year, the City of St. Cloud further demonstrated its commitment to youth athletics. In January, city leaders officially cut the ribbon on a $17 million expansion and improvement project at the St. Cloud Little League complex behind the St. Cloud Civic Center on 17th Street.
The upgrades include new fields, enhanced lighting, fencing, updated dugouts, and expanded parking — investments designed to support local athletes and families for years to come and ensure the league continues to thrive for another 50 years.
League President Danielle Momenteller served as master of ceremonies Friday evening, welcoming families, volunteers, elected officials, and community leaders to an event that honored the past while looking confidently toward the future.
The ceremony began with a powerful performance of the National Anthem by the St. Cloud High School Vocal Ensemble, setting a patriotic tone before the highly anticipated annual player parade. One by one, teams and coaches were announced, filling the fields with excitement as parents cheered and cameras flashed.
Friday evening also highlighted the league’s Challenger Division, an inspiring part of St. Cloud Little League that provides children with physical and intellectual challenges the opportunity to participate in baseball in a supportive and inclusive environment. The Challenger athletes received heartfelt applause as they took the field, underscoring the league’s commitment to ensuring every child has a chance to play.
Among those standing on the field in support of Florida’s largest Little League organization were Osceola County Sheriff Chris Blackmon, St. Cloud Police Chief Douglas Goerke, Osceola County Commissioner Ricky Booth, who delivered the invocation, St. Cloud Mayor Chris Robertson, and Brian Wetzel, President of Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital. City leaders including Erika Booth, Ken Gilbert, and Jen Paul were also present in support of the milestone season.
This year marks a significant partnership milestone, as Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital serves as the league’s Premier Sponsor. The hospital’s commitment reflects a deep investment in youth development and community wellness.
Ceremonial first pitches officially ushered in the 2026 season. Sheriff Blackmon delivered the first hardball pitch, while Chief Goerke threw the opening softball pitch. Mayor Robertson also stepped onto the mound in a full-circle moment — returning to the very fields where he once played as a child.
A special highlight of the evening was the recognition of longtime volunteer leader and Player Agent Franny McNutt, who was honored for her lifetime of service and dedication to St. Cloud Little League. In addition, several other committed volunteer leaders were recognized for their tireless behind-the-scenes work that makes the league’s success possible.
McNutt shared her excitement about the historic season and what lies ahead.
“This season is incredibly special for all of us,” McNutt said. “Celebrating 50 years of St. Cloud Little League while watching nearly 1,000 kids march across that field during the player parade — including our amazing Challenger Division — reminds us exactly why we do this. The energy, the excitement, the pride in our community… it’s unforgettable. As we begin another journey toward Little League’s iconic World Series, we’re focused on giving every child the opportunity to grow, compete, and build lifelong memories. None of this would be possible without the moms, dads, families, and volunteers who show up every day to support these players. And we’re especially grateful to Orlando Health St. Cloud Hospital — our hometown community hospital — for stepping up as the league’s Premier Sponsor and investing in the future of our kids.”
But perhaps the most meaningful recognition of the night belonged to the families.
The moms and dads filling the stands. The guardians and grandparents guiding young players. The coaches who selflessly give their time after long workdays to mentor, teach, and lead.
