In 1971, Randi Siebert underwent back surgery and required a blood transfusion. Soon after, her liver function began to decline, and she was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease in 2000. Doctors have said that a liver transplant is essential to her survival, and today that hope has come to fruition. Randi and her husband Fred are currently at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville preparing for her liver transplant. Friends, family and the community are all hoping and praying for a successful transplant surgery, and that is the expectation by all, but that won’t be the end of the challenges facing Randi and her caring husband Fred Siebert.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $740,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. After an extended hospital stay in 2008, she had to leave her job as a substance abuse counselor, adding to the financial strain.
