After a 10-hour search by air, water, and ground, the St. Cloud Police Department has recovered the body of a missing local resident from East Lake Toho.

63-year-old Elizabeth Mathis was reported missing yesterday afternoon by her family, and SCPD Officers patrolling the St. Cloud Lakefront last night reported her vehicle parked in the city marina parking lot. In the early overnight hours this morning, the search for her whereabouts began.

With assistance from the St. Cloud Fire Rescue Department, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission, an extensive search was conducted along the south shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga using boats, helicopters, and airboats. At approximately 11:30 a.m., Ms. Mathis’ body was discovered north of Chisholm Park, along the eastern portion of the lake. Our detectives will be working with the local Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a cause of death.

We continue to actively investigate this case, but do not suspect any criminal act or foul play occurred. The St. Cloud Marina boat ramp, which had been closed during the investigation, has been reopened.

POLICÍA DE SAINT CLOUD RECUPERA CUERPO DE PERSONA DESAPARECIDA 

Luego de una búsqueda de 10 horas por aire, agua y tierra, el Departamento de Policía de St. Cloud recuperó el cuerpo de un residente local desaparecido de East Lake Toho.

Elizabeth Mathis, de 63 años, fue reportada como desaparecida ayer por la tarde por su familia, y los oficiales de SCPD que patrullaban St. Cloud Lakefront anoche informaron que su vehículo estaba estacionado en el estacionamiento del puerto deportivo de la ciudad. En la madrugada de esta mañana se inició la búsqueda de su paradero.

Con la ayuda del Departamento de Bomberos de St. Cloud, la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Osceola y la Comisión de Pesca y Vida Silvestre de Florida, se realizó una búsqueda exhaustiva a lo largo de la costa sur del lago East Tohopekaliga utilizando botes, helicópteros y botes de aire. Aproximadamente a las 11:30 a. m., el cuerpo de la Sra. Mathis fue descubierto al norte de Chisholm Park, a lo largo de la parte este del lago. Nuestros detectives trabajarán con la oficina del médico forense local para determinar la causa de la muerte.

Continuamos investigando activamente este caso, pero no sospechamos que haya ocurrido ningún acto criminal o juego sucio. La rampa para botes de St. Cloud Marina, que había estado cerrada durante la investigación, ha sido reabierta.
