St. Cloud Regional Medical Center (SCRMC) is pleased to announce the launch of an Interventional Cardiology (PCI) program as an extension of services currently offered in its cardiac catheterization laboratory.

After completing a comprehensive development program to build the infrastructure that will support these services, SCRMC leadership submitted the required document to the State of Florida that will allow the program to begin offering elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) as of July, 2018.

Cardiac catheterization is a minimally invasive, procedure that allows a cardiologist to effectively diagnose, and often treat, heart problems in patients who are suspected of having a blockage or other issues within the arteries.  Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), also known as cardiac angioplasty, is also a catheter-based treatment used to open and secure blockages in cardiac arteries that can lead to a deterioration of heart muscle, heart attacks and even sudden cardiac death.

This program will provide patients with advanced coronary artery disease a local cardiac catheterization lab to schedule an elective procedure conveniently, close to home, without the stressors of traveling outside their community.

This program will be an excellent complement to the current diagnostic and cardiac device service currently offered at SCRMC.  In fact, many of the Cardiologists currently treating patients at St. Cloud possess the skills to perform these procedures. Now, these patients can have one stop for advanced cardiac care.
