Swap seats!
It’s a call that usually goes out on a bus, but it could have been said at Monday’s Osceola County Board of County Commissioners meeting.
District 2 commissioner Viviana Janer, the sitting vice chairwoman, was named the board chair for the next 12 months by the Commission. The sitting chairwoman, Cheryl Grieb, was named the vice chair, so the two literally swapped seats before taking on the meat of Monday’s regular meeting.
Janer was the board chairwoman in 2016, the year after she was elected to the board. She is in the midst of her second term on the board.
“I thank my fellow commissioners for their confidence — I think,’ Janer said with a wry smile. “Seriously, this is an office that looks easy, but it isn’t. I want to thank Commissioner Grieb for her year of service as chairwoman.”
Grieb came on the board at the same time, in 2014 and won re-election in 2018. She was co-chair in 2017.
“I wish you all the best this year,” Grieb said to Janer before the meeting began in earnest.”
