All the ways that dealing with the coronavirus pandemic have changed our lives has been stressful for many of us. There’d be no shame in “self-medicating” with an adult drink or two to calm the nerves.

So have Floridians been dealing with the quarantine with cocktails? The answer is no — or at least not as much as folks from other states, according to a study done by a leading cooking and barbecue website.

SeriouslySmoked.com analyzed geotagged Twitter data and found that Texans are dealing with the COVID-19 outbreak by hitting the bottle more than anyone else in the country. (Texas, as a state, has a rather low number of virus cases and deaths per capita).

The website compiled more than 200,000 tweets from the last 30 days and analyzed the contents using keywords, phrases and hashtags. The results? Texas had the highest volume of tweets with alcohol consumption references, followed by California, New Mexico, Hawaii (“Mahalo! Have a Mai Tai!”) and Arizona.

Rounding out the top five were Nevada (even with the Las Vegas Strip completely shut down), Louisiana, Mississippi, Idaho and Georgia. Florida? Not in the Top 10.

As always, drink responsibly, as we wait for our favorite restaurants and bars to reopen.
