KISSIMMEE, Fla. — A 22-year-old Kissimmee man has been arrested and charged with manslaughter after investigators say he fatally shot his friend while mishandling a loaded firearm Wednesday night in Kissimmee, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a residence located at 2691 Chatham Circle at approximately 8:40 p.m. on May 6 in reference to a reported shooting.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they located a man suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was later identified as 21-year-old Orlando Jose Canizales of Kissimmee.

Authorities said Canizales was transported to HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

The Sheriff’s Office said detectives with the agency’s Violent Crimes Unit and Homicide Unit responded to the residence and launched a death investigation.

According to investigators, Canizales was shot by his friend while the firearm was being mishandled. Following the investigation, deputies arrested 22-year-old Carlos Moises Garcia of Kissimmee.

Garcia was charged with manslaughter with a firearm and booked into the Osceola County Jail.

The investigation remains ongoing, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Un hombre de 22 años de Kissimmee fue arrestado y acusado de homicidio involuntario después de que investigadores informaran que disparó fatalmente a su amigo mientras manipulaba incorrectamente un arma de fuego cargada la noche del miércoles en Kissimmee, según la Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.

Los agentes respondieron a una residencia ubicada en el 2691 de Chatham Circle aproximadamente a las 8:40 p.m. del 6 de mayo tras recibir un reporte de un tiroteo.

Cuando los agentes llegaron al lugar, encontraron a un hombre con una herida de bala. La víctima fue identificada posteriormente como Orlando Jose Canizales, de 21 años y residente de Kissimmee.

Las autoridades informaron que Canizales fue trasladado al HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, donde más tarde falleció debido a sus heridas.

La Oficina del Sheriff indicó que detectives de la Unidad de Crímenes Violentos y de la Unidad de Homicidios respondieron a la residencia e iniciaron una investigación de muerte.

De acuerdo con los investigadores, Canizales recibió el disparo de su amigo mientras el arma de fuego estaba siendo manipulada de manera incorrecta. Tras la investigación, los agentes arrestaron a Carlos Moises Garcia, de 22 años y residente de Kissimmee.

Garcia fue acusado de homicidio involuntario con arma de fuego y fue ingresado en la Cárcel del Condado Osceola.

La investigación continúa en curso, según informó la Oficina del Sheriff.
