For the last 58 years, Osceola Arts’ has been enriching Osceola County in theatre, fine art, music, and arts education through the many programs held at its facility. In past years they have relocated to historic downtown Kissimmee for an entire weekend to host hundreds of fine artists, crafters, musicians and performers during The Osceola Art Festival. As the milestone, 60th year approaches, Osceola Arts, in partnership with the City of Kissimmee, Experience Kissimmee, and Sherwin-Williams is excited to announce a brand new artistic endeavor.
During the month of May, Osceola Arts is proud to present ARTisNOW, a Public Murals project. This new artistic project will join talented local artists and community members through the collaborative process of mural-making to create high-quality public murals that transform and revitalize downtown Kissimmee public spaces. This program will provide new ways of looking at the arts as a powerful force to inspire community dialogue, community development, and celebrate local culture.
“Participation in creative cultural activities helps connect people to each other and the community,” said Osceola Arts’ Visual Arts Director, Marilyn Cortes-Lovato, “It creates opportunities for community dialogue, creative community building, shared cultural experiences, and can improve economic development.”
The inaugural ARTisNOW public murals project will feature four Florida-based artists transforming the walls of four buildings along Broadway in historic downtown Kissimmee. The buildings included this year are:
Hanson, Walter & Associates at 8 Broadway- Artist: German Lemus
Main Street Pizza at 16 Broadway- Artist: Christian Stanley
Broadway Plaza at 120 Broadway- Artist: Steven Teller
Kissimmee Main Street Station at 421 Broadway- Artist: Willie Soto
The artists will begin work this Saturday, May 11th and work during the daytime hours through Friday, May 18th. Residents and visitors can view their work throughout the week. For more information visit OsceolaArts.org.
