Give Kids The World Village has named Caroline Schumacher, current President & CEO of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation, as its next President & CEO. Beginning this June, Schumacher will make a meaningful return to the organization she served for nearly two decades, bringing with her a legacy of leadership and a deep connection to its mission.
The transition reflects the vision of legendary hotelier and philanthropist Henri Landwirth, a Holocaust survivor who played a pivotal role in founding both ASF and GKTW alongside the Mercury 7 astronauts and other passionate changemakers.
During her six-year tenure at ASF, Schumacher led the organization through a period of remarkable growth — expanding scholarship opportunities, forging corporate partnerships, and deepening alumni engagement. Her efforts helped elevate ASF’s profile as a national leader in advancing STEM education and supporting the next generation of American innovators.
“It has been an incredible honor to serve the mission of the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation and to work alongside exceptional students, astronauts, and leaders in science and space,” Schumacher said. “Returning to Give Kids The World feels like coming full circle — continuing Henri Landwirth’s legacy for a cause that remains close to my heart.”
ASF has begun a nationwide search for its next CEO. In the interim, its Executive Committee, Board, and staff will oversee the organization’s continued operations and mission fulfillment.
At Give Kids The World Village, Schumacher will continue the nonprofit’s mission of providing cost-free, transformative vacations to critically ill children and their families. Her selection followed a comprehensive national search.
“Caroline brings not only a deep connection to our mission but a proven track record of compassionate, innovative leadership,” said GKTW Board Chairman John Nichols. “We are excited for the future under her guidance.”
Schumacher’s unique leadership journey — bridging two mission-driven nonprofits connected by a single, powerful legacy — is a testament to the enduring values of empathy, service, and visionary action championed by Henri Landwirth.
