The City of Kissimmee has activated over 200 dedicated employees who are working around the clock to assess Hurricane Milton damage, assist with debris cleanup, and support emergency operations and recovery efforts.

In the wake of the storm, residents are reminded to prioritize safety. All downed power lines should be treated as energized and dangerous. If you encounter any, do not approach them; report immediately to the Kissimmee Utility Authority at 407-933-9800.

For those using generators, place them at least 20 feet away from your home and downwind from doors and windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Always turn off the generator before refueling, avoid using it in wet conditions, and use a heavy-duty outdoor extension cord instead of connecting it directly to your home.

Avoid cutting cables on the ground, as they may be vital for emergency services. Always assume all wires are live and report them for proper handling. Wear protective gear such as goggles, gloves, and sturdy footwear when cleaning up debris.

Residents are reminded to prioritize safety by following the “Turn Around, Don’t Drown” principle when encountering flooded areas. Driving into flooded streets can be extremely dangerous, as water depth can be deceptive and lead to losing control or drowning. Stay informed about local conditions, avoid flooded areas, and seek alternative routes.

If your property has sustained damage, please report it using our self-report damage form at kissimmee.gov/selfreport. This helps us prioritize damage assessments, but remember it does not replace filing a claim with your home insurance.

Information on debris collection that typically occurs during a significant storm will be announced after we conduct our preliminary damage assessment.
