A tragic accident on Monday afternoon claimed the life of a 19-year-old man from St. Cloud and left another injured after their vehicle lost control on the Florida Turnpike exit ramp leading to the eastbound Interstate 4 Express Lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 3:04 p.m. near mile marker 259 in Orange County. Troopers report that a 1993 Mazda MX-5 was traveling northbound on the Florida Turnpike exit ramp to I-4 when the driver began changing lanes toward the inside lane and lost control.
Preliminary evidence reveals that the driver overcorrected to the right, striking the outside shoulder concrete wall barrier, before overcorrecting again to the left and colliding with the inside shoulder concrete wall barrier. The vehicle then overturned onto its roof.
The driver, a 19-year-old St. Cloud resident, was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger, also a 19-year-old man from St. Cloud, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Health Central Hospital for treatment.
