A firefighter with the Osceola County Fire Rescue Station 62 is in the hospital after being hit in the head with an ax while treating a patient, according to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office.
Personnel from Station 62 were dispatched to a home in Kissimmee Wednesday after receiving a call about a woman having difficulty breathing. The news release from the Sheriff’s Office said that while the woman was being administered treatment the woman’s son exited the home with an ax in his hand and struck a member of the fire rescue team in the head.
The fire rescue personnel was taken to the hospital. Osceola County Fire Rescue Public Information Coordinator Andrew Sullivan said the firefighter is stable and will be kept overnight in the hospital for observation.
The man with the ax was arrested. His name has not been released, nor the charges he might face.
No additional information was provided in the news release about the woman who was being treated.
