Jose Alverez, Mayor of the City of Kissimmee presented a Proclamation to The Transition House Inc. during the City of Kissimmee Commissioner’s Meeting on April 2, 2019, declaring April 2019 Alcohol Awareness Month. Alcohol is currently one of the most commonly used addictive substances in the United States.

Alcoholism can have a devastating effect on children, families, relationships, and the overall quality of life within a community. It can lead to an increase in domestic violence and can even be a contributing factor in crime rates. The Transition House Inc. focuses on creating increased awareness of the negative effects of alcoholism and that there is an entire continuum of care that addresses all of the dynamics that come from addiction, whether that be alcoholism or drug dependence.

The Transition House Inc. was founded by Thomas Griffin in 1993, in St. Cloud, Florida, which began as a halfway house, providing substance abuse treatment and transitional housing for men. The goal of The Transition House Inc. was to assist homeless men with alcohol or drug abuse diagnoses and to prepare them for their return to society as productive and self-sustaining members of the community. The Transition House Inc. continues today with the same goal but is able to provide much more by assisting homeless veterans on their way to recovery along with providing therapy services for children, adolescents, and adults who deal with mental health issues and addiction.

Recently, The Transition House Inc. held its 2nd Annual Alcohol Awareness Family-Fun Walk/Run 5K to kick off Alcohol Awareness Month, sharing information with the community about alcohol awareness and spreading the message that RECOVERY IS POSSIBLE!

Christine Falkowski, Marketing Director at The Transition House Inc. accepted the Proclamation in place of Mr. Thomas Griffin, CEO of The Transition House Inc., who was in Washington State lobbying for The Transition House Inc. .

“On behalf of our CEO, Thomas Griffin who started The Transition House Inc. 25 years ago, we want to make sure that everyone is aware of Alcohol abuse and dependence along with other substances that can have a significant impact not only on an individual but also the families and children.”
