Downtown Kissimmee is now home to its first augmented reality (AR) public art installations, thanks to a collaborative effort between Osceola Arts, the Downtown Kissimmee Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), and Snap! Orlando. This groundbreaking project integrates Osceola Arts’ Art in Public Places mural initiative with cutting-edge AR technology, providing a vibrant and interactive cultural experience for residents and visitors alike.

One of the highlights of this initiative is the mural Tranquility Tree, created by renowned local artist Jaime Margary. Located at the American Legion Post 10 (205 Lakeview Drive), the mural features vivid imagery that comes alive through augmented reality, blending traditional artistry with modern innovation. Visitors can engage with the mural using the City Unseen mobile app, which transforms the artwork into a dynamic experience with 3D animations and soundscapes.

Osceola Arts played a pivotal role in bringing this vision to life through their Art in Public Places program. This initiative, part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to fostering creativity and accessibility in Osceola County, has led to the creation of multiple murals across the region, including those featured in the Kissimmee Lakefront Park project.

“Public art is about more than beautifying spaces—it’s about creating moments of connection and inspiration,” said Osceola Arts Visual Arts Director Marilyn Cortes Lovato. “The collaboration with Osceola Arts, mural artist Jaime Margary and Snap! Orlando allowed us to take this mural to the next level, engaging the community in a way that’s both innovative and meaningful.”

In addition to Margary’s Tranquility Tree, the AR installation Silv[AR] Clouds by artist Matthew Swenson can be found near the marina (69 Lakeview Drive). Together, these murals showcase the potential of augmented reality to enhance public spaces and create immersive storytelling experiences.

Osceola Arts’ Art in Public Places program has been instrumental in revitalizing the visual landscape of Osceola County. Through partnerships with local and regional artists, the organization has spearheaded projects that celebrate cultural diversity and artistic expression.

The Art in Public Places initiative includes murals in prominent community locations, with the goal of making art accessible to all. This commitment to cultural enrichment has not only beautified the county but has also positioned Osceola Arts as a driving force behind creative placemaking in Central Florida.

The Kissimmee Lakefront Park installations represent a fusion of this dedication to art and the innovative potential of augmented reality. By combining traditional mural techniques with AR technology, the project redefines how the community interacts with public art.

Experience the AR Art

Visitors can experience these transformative murals by downloading the City Unseen mobile app, available on major app stores. The app allows users to view the AR features embedded in the murals, bringing the artwork to life through their smartphones.

Both installations are open to the public at Kissimmee Lakefront Park, inviting the community to explore the vibrant and dynamic world of augmented reality art.
